Spring Cleaning: Eco-Friendly Cleaning Products

It’s that time of year. The sun is shining through the windows (YIKES), the fridge needs a good clean (hello moldy lemon) and the garden tools still have soil on them from last year. OH hello spring cleaning time, is that you? Let’s make this spring cleaning non toxic and healthy together!

Fun fact: The Purposeful You all started when I was expecting my first child. I started looking at ALL the ingredients of our cleaning products and thinking about every product I was bringing into the home, especially into the nursery. I went down rabbit holes and realized I could make purposeful choices for our family and inspire others to do the same. I started sharing low waste + low toxic living at first. It wasn’t as sexy as gardening I guess as my Instagram account didn’t take off BUT it is very near and dear to my heart and that’s why I believe this blog is so important.

I feature my top 7 products I use to clean my home and garden tools. It’s important to think about what goes down our drains, what we wash our tools with and how we clothes for our health. It’s time to shop for your spring cleaning products so let’s dive in:

HOME:

  1. Cleaning Scrub by Mint Cleaning- Move over comet (highly toxic) and hello mint cleaning scrub. This is the only product I use to clean my toilets! I also know it’s safe if my kids put their hands in the toilet, EW, but it happens. I use this scrub on stove tops, stains, window sills, sinks and tubs. It’s a MUST in your cleaning caddy. 2. Swedish Dishcloth by Goldilocks Goods: One swedish dishcloth replaces approximately 17 rolls of paper towel and absorbs up to 20x its weight! Bye bye paper towel. Safe for nearly all surfaces, this cloth is perfect for cleaning up spills, washing dishes, polishing, wiping plants and more. Use with or without cleaning products. Click here to learn more. Use code THEPURPOSEFULYOU at checkout for 15% off.

  3. All Purpose Cleaner by Mint Cleaning: This is my go to EVERYWHERE in the home. I wipe the counters, toilets, chairs, tables, you name it with this! Click here to purchase. Use code TASHA15 for 15% off the entire order.

  4. DIY Window Cleaner Recipe: Not a product but an easy DIY! We have been making our own window cleaner for a few years now as our littles LOVE to wash windows (then I redo them but ya know). It’s super easy to make and you probably have everything in your home. In a 500ml spray bottle add 1 cup white vinegar, 1 cup of water and add 10-15 drops of lemon essential oil. Lemon will break down greasy prints on the windows.

  5. Floor Wash from Mint: It’s so important to clean our floors with non toxic soap as our bare feet, crawling kiddos and paws are directly in contact with the floors. This floor wash is plant based, biodegradable and a contracted formula so you only use a little bit! Your investment goes a LONG way. Suitable for all floors and smells like rosemary + mint. Your guests will comment! Click here to get it! Use code TASHA15 for 15% off.

Before I dive into my garden section, I also have an old toothbrush to get those sink drains, mircofiber clothes and a wooden scrub brush.

GARDEN:

  1. Dish Soap to Wash Tools: I love Mint Cleaning dish soap (for inside the home too). My dad always taught me to take care of my things, so I wash my tools every year! This is a great time to wash your tools before the spring garden season (it’s also good to do in the winter as well). This soap is a plant-based concentrate that is tough enough to get dirt off of your tools. It’s fully biodegradable infused with citrus and mint essential oils. I use a non scratch copper scrubbie to scrub the tools in a bowl of waster with warm dish soap and an old cloth or swedish cloth to wipe them clean afterwards.

  2. Prune Master Spray for Pruners- Finally an ORGANIC fluid to spray on pruning shears and saws to clean with that I feel ok about. It also stops rust, prolongs tool life, reduces labor and prevents the spread of plant disease. Removes tree sap and other dirt for better cutting and longer lasting garden tools.
