Skincare In My Second Trimester
“Oh, you’re glowing!” I often get told…yes, the nice pregnancy hormones are starting to kick in, leaving my skin a little more glowy these days. I also have to hand it to the skincare I have been using in the second trimester! I added a few extra things to my normal routine that my doctor approved and I am excited to share them with you today. Of course, please be sure to ask your doctor before using any of the skincare I mention in this blog!
Going into the warmer months, I knew my dry skin would start to feel even more dry. I researched a lot of companies and asked my doctor and naturopath about many products to see if they are safe for me. After you find out you’re pregnant, you also start to find out all the things you can and can’t have. Some products I previously had from my dermatologist were not allowed anymore, like anything with retinol. It’s important to take time to look into your beauty products when pregnant!
Now, let’s start with what I kept in my routine. If you’ve been following me for a while, you know I have loved the 100% all natural, BC-based brand Wild Skincare for a couple of years now. I love their cleanser and moisturizer which I still use daily. I cleanse once in the morning and twice at night. Here’s the facial cleanser I use (click here), which I follow with the Storm Force 10 Day+Night Moisturizer (click here). Use discount code PURPOSEFUL10 for 10% off at checkout! Wild Skincare harvests their ingredients sustainably and all of their products are made in a GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) regulated facility to ensure the highest quality. You can feel good when you use Wild Skincare; I really can’t recommend it enough.
The first product I added to my skincare routine during my second trimester was Foster Skin Care’s Orange Cocoa Body Butter (click here). I use this on my growing belly to keep it hydrated and comfortable as it slowly starts to stretch. Based in Victoria, BC, Foster is a certified B Corp, 100% cruelty free and committed to sustainable practices like providing refillable bottles. I love that they are doing their part to build a circular economy in the skincare industry. The other product I have loved from Foster is their Nourish Face Oil — I use it a few times a week to keep my skin hydrated (click here).
Another favourite I have added to my nightly routine after I cleanse is Glow Jar’s Radiance Brightening Serum. Glow Jar is also based in Victoria, BC, it’s a female-founded company and its mission is to simplify skincare for sensitive skin. Believe me when I say your skin starts to get sensitive when you’re pregnant! I added the brightening serum to my routine at nighttime only and I have begun to notice a difference in the morning. I swear I look a little less tired (music to anyone’s ears?!). I highly recommend it — use discount code PURPOSEFUL10 to get 10% off all of Glow Jar’s products (click here). I also have been loving their Glow Maker Mask lately (click here)!
Lastly, I want to talk about sunscreen. This is the year — better late than never, at 34 years old — that I am putting sunscreen on my face everyday! Yes, I am finally doing it and I found one that works for my skin and is safe for pregnancy. I’m using the Lilikoi Daily Defense Moisturizer SPF 40 by Eminence, a Hungarian brand that’s sold worldwide. You can find the product here or look for a spa near you that carries Eminence products. It’s an investment, but it doesn’t leave your skin white or flaky! It’s been worth it for me.
That sums up the few things I have added in my skincare routine in my second trimester. It’s a passion of mine to find and support companies that focus on clean beauty, and I love to share them with you! The beauty industry can be difficult to navigate, so don’t be afraid to ask questions and talk to your doctor about what products are safe and right for you.
