7 Ways to Use Rosemary This Holiday Season

If you follow us on Instagram, you might have seen some shenanigans I recently got up to in my neighbour’s garden. She told me that she has a thriving rosemary bush and that I could help myself to as much as I want. No surprise that this offer was music to my ears. I stopped by and left with a basket full of fragrant rosemary — and a bunch of ideas for how to use it that I want to share with you today!

I don’t know about you, but I associate rosemary with the holidays. It’s my go-to for eating and decorating. If you’re looking for creative, festive ways to make use of rosemary, you’ve come to the right place. P.S. it’s also a great plant to add to your garden plan for 2022!

1. Baking — rosemary shortbread, anyone?

If you’re planning on making shortbread this season, why not spice it up with some rosemary? We gave it a try and it was a hit with my husband and son. Click here to see the recipe.

2. Making DIY gifts even more beautiful

I made some pickled kohlrabi the other day and tied on some greenery to take the final product to the next level. Add some rosemary to your DIY gifts (maybe some rosemary-infused olive oil?), or gift wrap — see our low-waste wrapping ideas!

3. The best-smelling wreaths you’ll ever make

Homemade wreaths are such a fun holiday tradition. This year, I made ours by adding some rosemary — one with some cedar, and one tied up with ribbon. They smell so good and stay fresh when they’re outside!

4. Votive vases to set the vibe

Candles are key for creating a hygge home. I highly recommend wrapping rosemary around your votives with string or a leftover rubber band — perfect for your holiday table or enjoying everyday!

5. Drying for holiday spice

Hang rosemary to dry and add to a DIY holiday spice mix! On a coat hanger, attach bunches of fresh rosemary with twine or reused twist ties and separate enough so they aren’t touching. Leave upside down in a cool, dark and dry place for 2-3 weeks depending on the moisture in your home.

6. Cozy cocktail garnish

An easy way to impress your friends and family is to add sprigs of rosemary to your favourite alcoholic or non-alcoholic drink. You could add dried oranges, too! We love to add rosemary to sparkling water with cranberries like you see below, or to gin cocktails.

7. Festive place setting

Elevate your table presentation with zero effort. Simply place some rosemary on top of each setting, or tie them onto folded cloth napkins if you want to take things a step further.

Above all, this season reminds us to slow down and enjoy time relaxing with loved ones. I hope these rosemary DIYs inspire you to do just that! If you have any other ideas to share, let us know in the comments or tag us on Instagram. Thanks for reading!
