Pink Lavender Salt Scrub
It’s almost Love Month! To celebrate throughout February (on the blog and on Instagram!), we will be highlighting the many ways we can honour the love in our lives. That includes our relationships with loved ones, with the planet and with ourselves.
I love to make little gifts for friends, family members and neighbours to make them feel special this time of year, and I always try to make sure that I’m as eco-conscious as possible. For many, Valentine’s Day adds a lot of pressure to spend money and create waste in the process, but I’m happy to say it doesn’t have to be that way! As for self-love, let’s be honest: that one can be pretty difficult at times, but we shouldn’t lose sight of it — because the longest and most important relationship we each have is the most personal one of all.
I wanted to start off our Love Month series with a simple yet luxurious DIY that is also planet-friendly, affordable, and giftable. We could all probably use a little pampering, so I hope you like the sound of this four-ingredient Himalayan salt scrub for anyone to enjoy. Make a batch, add to glass jars and drop off on doorsteps or mail to your bestie! Be sure to keep some for yourself, too, so you can level up your shower time. I live for an at-home spa feeling!
With its relaxing smell and blush pink colour, I think this beautiful scrub will serve as a lovely reminder to slow down and take care. It’s especially perfect for keeping your hands and feet soft as they take some wear and tear this time of year. Even better: the scrub is made from natural ingredients you likely already have or will be glad to use outside of this recipe, and you can reuse jars already in your home.
Ready to get started? Follow the guide below, and feel free to customize if there are other ethically sourced essential oils you’d like to use!
P.S. Exfoliation is an interesting topic in sustainability — remember when Canada banned microbeads in 2018?! Before that, they were all-too-common in skincare. The regulations were a positive step forward in reducing the plastic entering our waterways. All the more reason for healthy alternatives like this DIY!
How to make pink lavender salt scrub:
Equipment:
Large mixing bowl
Mixing spoon
Measuring cups/spoons
Small glass jars with lids
Recycled paper or anything you’d like to use for a tag
Hole punch and/or scissors
Twine
Marker or pen
Optional: sprigs of lavender to garnish
Ingredients:
1 cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons fine ground pink Himalayan salt
1/4 cup organic virgin coconut oil (liquid at room temperature)
8-10 drops ethically sourced lavender essential oil (we use Doterra)
Steps: This couldn’t be easier! All you have to do is mix all of the ingredients in the bowl, combine well and add to your jars. To make a Love Month tag, cut out a heart from something in your recycling bin. Punch a hole, write a label or love note and tie on with twine. I also added a sprig of lavender we dried from our garden! This makes just over one cup, and you can keep it to enjoy for several months.
